on making my bed

Making my bed is something that I normally can't be bothered to do. My normal morning routine is waking up, rolling out of bed, and leaving it behind to start off the day. This works out great in the morning, but when I come home at night after a long day, it is so discouraging seeing a messy bed and knowing that I'm gonna be sleeping in that. Some days I just can't deal with anything and a messy bed is the final straw.

Making my bed is a habit I'm trying to build. It's too easy for me to roll out of bed and onto my day, but making my bed forces me to slow down and think about the day ahead of me before I get going. It also makes me feel a lot better coming home to a neat and tidy bed.

I think I'm learning from making a bed as I try to build the habit. I think I'm learning how to slow down, think about my day. I'm also learning how to build small habits consciously. Building good habits is hard- it takes conscious effort to force myself to make my bed. It's such a small thing most people don't even think about- but I'm surprised at how much of a difference it has made in my life already.
