on christmas eve traditions (as a form of reflection)

๐ŸŽ„

I have a Christmas Eve tradition that I do by myself. I don't even think it's enough of a thing to call a tradition, and it's definitely not original- I'm sure many people do the exact same thing as me.

Late at night on Christmas Eve, I stand in front of the lit-up tree for about half an hour. I don't do anything else except stand there and think.

What do I think about? Honestly, I couldn't tell you. Sometimes my mind is completely blank as I watch the flashing lights. Other times I think about me, the past year, my family and friends, what I'm grateful for, what I regret doing, etc etc. It doesn't really matter what I think about, to be honest, but more about the time taken to sit (stand) and slow down before the hustle and bustle of Christmas Day.

I think taking the time to slow down and reflect is something that it's easy to forget to do, especially in the holiday season. At the end of the day, as the end of the year approaches, I find myself feeling directionless. Reflecting is a good way to 'find myself' again.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
